THE LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY?
with Georg Nigl, Nicholas Ofczarek, Vladimir Jurowski
For Georg Nigl, art song should always address the contradictions and danger zones of our time. Together with Nicholas Ofczarek and Vladimir Jurowski, in “Die letzten Tage der Menschlichkeit?” (The Last Days of Humanity?) he embarks on an adventure with the texts of Karl Kraus and the music of Gustav Mahler and Hanns Eisler, creations by three artists who, over a hundred years ago, examined the everyday reality of war and its individual consequences for each person as if under a magnifying glass.
“The Last Days of Humanity?” with these three exceptional artists celebrated a sold-out premiere at the Vienna State Opera in January 2025, was performed at the Bavarian State Opera in July, and is now returning to the opera house on the Ring for a matinee performance.
