Gall, Frankfurt\/Main: Suhrkamp, 2006.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-af669a7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"af669a7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Content<\/strong><\/p><p>\u2018Adorno and Eisler\u2019s book, originally published in English in 1947, is a classic exemplar of both music and film theory. It evolved as a joint project in American exile based on two research projects funded by the Rockefeller Foundation: Adorno conducted studies on music on the radio as part of the \u201cRadio Research Project\u201d headed by Paul Lazarsfeld \u2013 which would become part of the fragmentary texts comprising the book <em>Current of Music<\/em> \u2013 while Eisler, on his \u201cFilm Music Project\u201d, explored the functions, possibilities, and limits of film music. Eisler initially focussed his work less on abstract ideas and analyses in favour of the composition of exemplary film scores and the subsequent production and evaluation of demonstration films. The project\u2019s artistic fruits include the famous quintet <em>Fourteen Ways to Describe Rain<\/em>, composed as a new and novel form of film music for Joris Ivens\u2019 \u201ccin\u00e9po\u00e8me\u201d <em>Regen<\/em>, and the soundtracks for <em>White Flood<\/em> and <em>A Child Went Forth<\/em>, an early Joseph Losey film. Eisler also composed two experimental film scores for an excerpt from John Ford\u2019s classic <em>The Grapes of Wrath<\/em>, serving as alternatives to Alfred Newman\u2019s music for the distributors\u2019 version. The DVD that accompanies the book documents these films and film music experiments, partly in original and restored, partly in reconstructed form. The book represents a treasure trove for film buffs and philosophers, musicologists, and cultural historians alike: the wide-ranging \u201cFilm Music Project\u201d is now finally available in the form it warrants.<\/p><p>With text passages published for the first time in their original German, a draft of the film music book by Theodor W.
